one fast couch potato

This weekend we ran the Running of the Bulls... in Palo Alto. The concept: You run, past Olympians in bull costumes chase you down, the more bulls you beat to the finish, the more raffle tickets you win. This was a really fun little event, so fun that even Mr. Matt was inspired to train to beat the bulls.

Someone yelled 'GO' and we were off. The bulls were to be released in timed intervals after the crowd started. The first bull set off two and half minutes after the crowd was released. Kris and I were at about .6 miles when we heard mooing behind us! The first bull had already caught us and we hadn't even hit a mile! How discouraging! We continued to mosey on along when suddenly another bull pushing a stroller with a wind blown baby cow in it went scorching past us at about mile 1.5! Then 2 cows passed us shortly after that! Winning raffle tickets wasn't looking promising at this point. Thank goodness, the stroller pushing bull decided to run backwards and hand off his baby cow in the stroller to another running cow.

I ended up finishing in 27:19 with only 2 bulls ahead of us, and possibly the cows. I'm not sure how they counted the cows. What was most impressive was that Mr. Matt finished just behind us in 29:48 proudly earning him the title of "Fastest Couch Potato!"

The race also included short distance races for the tots. I have to say, watching a bunch of little 1 yr olds "race" to a finish line 10 yards ahead of them is freakin hilarious. I'm pretty sure they didn't even know they were racing, but it sure made a good laugh for the crowd. I think I'd equate it to a frog jumping contest. This race is a must do! :)
